TEMECULA, CA — California Highway Patrol officers were in pursuit this morning of a man who stole a law enforcement vehicle. The chase went through parts of Temecula and as of 10:15 a.m., had entered the San Diego area, officials tell Patch.
Details about the incident are very limited at this time, but we're told it started with a traffic stop in the Temecula Area CHP's jurisdiction.
The motorist took off running on foot after being pulled over, and the CHP officer chased after him, according to CHP Officer Mike Lassig. At some point, the man gained access to the patrol unit, jumped inside and took off driving.
He eventually ditched the cruiser somewhere in Temecula. He ended up in another vehicle, and was being chased southbound on Interstate 15 by the CHP.
Witnesses reported seeing the pursuit head onto the 76 Freeway.
