The Murrieta Police Department announced around 12:15 p.m. on Monday, July 15 that officers were responding to a "large explosion" in a Murrieta neighborhood. Multiple news outlets are reporting that a natural gas line was hit, causing the explosion.
By 12:55 p.m., Murrieta PD announced that Clinton Keith Road is closed to all traffic from Smith Ranch to Nutmeg Street for public safety reasons. They said that officers were notifying residents of mandatory evacuations near a reported fire and nobody would be allowed into the area, including residents.
On social media, residents near the area reported a "large boom" and reported feeling their homes shaking following the blast. Photos and video on social media showed the house seemingly fully engulfed in flames.
