Rock Hall's Class of 2019 Includes..

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced their upcoming Class of 2019.  Here it is:  Stevie Nicks, Janet Jackson, Radiohead, The Cure, Def Leppard, Roxy Music, and the Zombies.

The artists who WERE nominated, but did NOT make the cut this year are:  Kraftwerk, Todd Rundgren, Rage Against the Machine, Rufus & Chaka Khan, MC5, LL Cool J, John Prine, and Devo.

This was the first time that Def Leppard, Roxy Music, and Stevie Nicks were nominated, although Stevie was previously inducted in 1998 as a member of Fleetwood Mac.

That makes her the FIRST woman to get into the Rock Hall TWICE.

Janet Jackson joins her older brothers Michael Jackson (Class of 2001) and the Jackson 5 (1997) as members of the Hall.

Radiohead seemed underwhelmed.  They released this statement:  "[We've] been surprised to learn of our induction.  [We] thank the Hall of Fame voting body and extend congratulations to this year's fellow inductees."

It's surprising that they issued a statement at all.  They've always been indifferent about the Rock Hall, and even joked about it, saying it must be a "cultural" thing they don't understand.  It's unclear whether or not they plan to attend.

Def Leppard won the fan vote, which only counts as one vote among more than a thousand . . . but apparently that was just as important as their induction.

Joe Elliott said, quote, "It's a nice badge of honor.  [The Hall of Fame] was something that we weren't overly concerned about until the fan vote thing became a major part of it.

"The people that really matter to every band are the audience . . . [that's] the prime target to any artist.  Now the people on the [nominating] committee, none of us know who they are.  But once the fan vote became an important thing, and that's when we started thinking, 'Okay, now this starts meaning something.'"

Bryan Ferry said he'd consider reuniting Roxy Music for a performance, but he hasn't talked to the other band members yet.  They haven't played together since 2011, and Brian Eno hasn't been in the fold since 1973.

And The Zombies have been waiting for this induction for 30 YEARS.  They were first eligible in 1989, and didn't even get nominated until 2014.  Then it took four tries for them to get in.  For the record, they're not bitter, and WILL perform.

The ceremony will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on March 29th.  As usual, HBO will air an edited version of the event at some point.  Details on tickets will be announced next month.

The Cure will probably perform at the ceremony . . . but keyboardist Roger O'Donnell said he doesn't expect them to invite any former members into the performance.  Singer Robert Smith is the only remaining original member.

For those of you who are keeping track on Male vs Female awards..

STEVIE NICKS is now the first woman to get into the Rock Hall TWICE, first with FLEETWOOD MAC, and now as a solo artist.

22 male artists are in twice, including ERIC CLAPTON, who's in THREE times . . . with The Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist.

The others who are in twice include:  Jeff Beck, David Crosby, Peter Gabriel, Michael Jackson, Curtis Mayfield, Graham Nash, Jimmy Page, Lou Reed, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, Stephen Stills, Ron Wood, Neil Young, and all four of the Beatles.
