Mexican Church's Giant Baby Jesus Statue Looks Exactly Like Phil Collins

Phil Collins

It's a safe bet that lots of people over the years have said that they "worship" Phil Collins.

When the Genesis lead singer/drummer went solo in the '80s, he became one of the decade's biggest pop stars. But as famous as Collins is, no one has been erecting 22-foot statues of him. Until...now?

A Mexican church is raising some eyebrows after unveiling the world's largest statue of Baby Jesus Christ. But with curly brown hair, big blue eyes and a prominent forehead, the big baby more closely resembles the "Easy Lover" singer than it does other caucasian depictions of the Son of God.

The home of the statue, La Epifanía del Señor, is located in Mexico's central state of Zacatecas.

A priest there says the statue's record size was not their intension; they just wanted something to fit the space.

"There is a space of between 26 feet between the ceiling and the floor and I ordered a statue measuring 21 feet, but I never intended to make it the biggest baby Jesus statue in the world," Rev. Humberto Rodriguez said in an interview with Central European News.

When the statue arrived, church officials began looking into some of the world's other large depictions of Baby Jesus and found the previous record to be about 16 feet tall and a little over 660 pounds. La Epifanía del Señor's Baby Jesus is 22 feet tall and over 2,000 pounds.

Neither Rev. Rodriguez nor representatives for Collins commented on the statue's resemblance to Collins.

Collins resurrected his career in 2017 after several years of retirement; he last toured the U.S. this fall.
